In this episode, we pick back up with Prince & The Revolution after The "Purple Rain" Tour, and all the revelations from spirit that caused a :mind control break" in Prince, and has set him on a new and higher spiritual path.
Prince (as usual) was recording the "Around the World In a Day" album while on the "Purple Rain" Tour. Prince reached out to those around him, including Lisa Coleman's brother David, and Wendy and Susannah's brother Jonathan, and used their vast array of knowledge of international music and instruments on several songs on the album. It was evident that Prince was going in a new musical direction with the new album.
At a Warner Bros Records listening party for the new album, execs were very excited about "Raspberry Beret", since it instantly sounded like a commercial pop hit, and began planning their promotional efforts for the album. However, seeking to step away from "Purple Rain", on this new musical direction, and to gain some artistic respect; Prince wants no promotion of the new album, or singles or videos released. The Revolution and Prince's management react to this move and the closing of the "Purple Rain" Era in a negative way (of course), wanting to ride out the world wide stardom for as long as they can.
Prince releases "Around the World in a Day" in April of 1985, but immediately turns his attention toward a movie project, "Under the Cherry Moon" and to recording the music for the soundtrack album, "Parade".
Through the Spring and Summer of 1985, Prince and his band and other Paisley Park musical acts took over Sunset Sound studios in Los Angeles, where Prince could work on all his various music projects simultaneously. But there is tension brewing as Prince, Lisa, and Wendy become close musical collaborators on the new music, while the other members of The Revolution feel left out.
During this time, Prince writes HIS next major hit song for Mazarati, Mark Brown's group that was signed to Paisley Park Records. He also returns to working with Sheila on her 2nd album, "Romance 1600". Sheila also stars in the movie "Krush Groove" performing some Prince penned songs in the movie.
Prince is also still getting some bad press after he "snubbed" USA for Africa and his bodyguard gets arrested for assault. Then...Prince is betrayed by a "friend" in a National Enquirer smear story.
The Family's album is recorded and released, and Prince makes moves to do damage control on his image by giving 2 major interviews in 1985: to Rolling Stone and MTV.
-8 Unreleased Prince tracks from the episode posted for Patrons of the “Lovesexy” Tier and higher.
