This is another episode of "The..." Music Through the Years series on the SPOOKY ELECTRIC XPOSED channel, available only on PATREON.
As with most of the 5 Prince series currently running on the channel, this series started as a "MUSIC XTRA" of "The Ritualistic Life and Murder of Prince" series. However, viewers loved this live music only episode so much, I created "The..." Music Through the Years series that is ONGOING on the channel.
In honor of Prince's 62nd birthday, I have posted a special episode of the "Music Through The Years" series: Prince "B-Sides" Through the Years
In May, with Prince's birthday approaching, I began asking for an idea of what to post for Patrons. Prince advised me to make a "Music Through the Years" episode highlighting his "B-Side" music, or music that appeared on a single, and not on an album. He gave me this idea last year, but I just put it on the back burner in favor of another project. But soon after I asked Prince about birthday post ideas, he responded: "What about that "B-Side" Music Through the Years episode?" So I went with it.
Actually, Prince's initial suggestion was MORE involved, but editing this episode, I saw that The "B-Sides" alone turned into a 4+ hour episode, and decided to limit it to just that...
I learned a bit more about Prince's experience in the music business while making this episode.
When Prince first got into the business it was common to release single records with a "B-Side" usually another track from that album, in order to promote sales of the album to the public. So, this was what Prince did on his early albums. So, many of the "B-Sides" from the earlier Prince albums we already saw performed through the years in earlier episodes of this series, so they are not included here.
Starting in the "1999" era, when Prince began writing music for "Purple Rain", Prince began releasing some of these extra songs as "B-Sides". Prince also began writing music specifically to be released as "B-Sides".
Prince continued this practice on into the 1990's with CD-singles releases, often making a stand-alone music video for these "B-Sides". Then in the 2000's the music business changed. Gone was the time of releasing singles from albums. Many artists could promote a single only and have a hit. Also, music became available for digital download and the need to release records and CDs in album form became obsolete. Prince shifted with this trend as well, and began releasing singles (no "B-Sides") digitally. So, as you watch Pt 1 and Pt 2 of this episode, you will see us end the "B-Sides" releases in the mid-2000's for this reason.
This "Music Through the Years..Prince B-Sides" episode turned out to be over 4 hours altogether, so I posted it in 2 parts over Prince's birthday weekend. Pt.1 on 6/6/2020 and Pt 2 on Prince's birthday 6/7/2020.

As with all the episodes in "The..." Music Through the Years series, these are multi- hour live episodes where we will watch Prince perform his hits over and over through the decades and Prince's dozens of tours. You will see Prince perform these hits over and over, again and again in different arrangements, with different bands, and various venues. But if it's one of your favorite Prince songs or albums being performed, I'm sure you won't mind.
Some footage was professionally shot by Prince, some were shot by venue staff, some by concertgoers. Some footage is over 30 or 35 years old, some are newer clips from the years right before Prince's death.
