In May of 2017, I uploaded to YouTube, Pt. 3 of the first foundational episodes of the series.  It is called, Pt.3: “Prince & The Grammys Rituals: 1985-2017”.

The nearly 3 hour original episode was immediately blocked by The Grammys.  This was the 3rd episode in “The Ritualistic Life and Murder of Prince” series, so I have received “Copyright Claims” from YouTube before on behalf of WMG in the past because I used a clip of some of Prince’s music.

At that time in 2017, early on in the “Adpocalypse” days of censorship on YouTube, this was common, and to rectify the issue, you just remove or replace the music, and then the video would be reinstated.

However, this was different.  I received a “Copyright Infringement” claim from The Grammys that simply stated in all caps “DO NOT MAKE PUBLIC” referring to a 3 minute clip of Prince presenting “Record of the Year” at the 55th Grammys in 2013.  And this was not even a true or valid “Copyright Infringement” claim as I had seen in the past.

This was simply a notice from “The Grammys” to not show that 3 minute clip…publicly.

If you have seen Pt. 3  or what has come to be known as “The Grammys episode”, then you know that this episode has several clips of Prince at each of The Grammys that we discuss; and we discussed 11 different Prince Grammys appearances from 1985 to 2017. It made me wonder what was so special about this episode that I was being warned to not make it public?

Actually, it couldn’t have been just the actual clip of Prince presenting, because I modified the episode, removing the clip and just adding still photos, but I kept my original “analysis” and decoding of the “55”th Grammys.  It seems like that may have been the issue, and what they didn’t want viewers to know. Because they continued to block the episode despite my modifications.

This threatening notice and the constant blocking got some viewers upset and worried for me and my safety.  However, Prince let me know that I was safe, and that there was nothing to fear.  Actually, Prince thought it was funny how upset The Grammys and WMG were by my work. They were obviously more afraid of me speaking and sharing with the collective what I knew, than I was afraid of them.  This is what amused Prince so much.

I was asked to simply repost the episode in parts, and to remove the 55th Grammys section and continue with my work.  I knew that I had more to expose and teach about Prince’s last life here, and that was more important than that 3 minute clip.

After that, I received a few more notices and notes from WMG stating that “they would be closely watching and monitoring my channel”.  The notes had a threatening tone to them, intended to scare and intimidate me.  But you know that doesn’t work on me.

I invited them to continue watching me and my channel, and to review the “Fair Use” statutes, and to note how my work meets the legal elements of the law.  I haven’t received any further “notes” from WMG, but because of what I was exposing and teaching on the channel about Prince, the channel became a target, and over the next year, every video was blocked and then de-monetized, under phony and "false claims".

Heck, they were claiming I used music that wasn't even in the videos, and that weren't even Prince songs...

So, it became more and more obvious that this was not about "copyright", but about silencing truth.

Even after I stopped posting episodes to YouTube, and starting posting episodes to Patreon exclusively; WMG blocked and de-monitized episodes that had been running for years on the channel.  I guess that since I wasn’t posting anything new, they wanted to block and censor what was left there.  This is why I deleted the channel permanently in 2021, knowing that I would eventually open a new channel in the future.

In the wake of all the initial blocking and threats over “Pt.3: Prince & The Grammys Rituals 1985-2017”, I made this short video for viewers, so that they could hear the full story behind all the controversy.
