THE RITUALISTIC LIFE and MURDER OF PRINCE: PT. 4 SEGMENT 17 “Diamonds and Pearls” (Pt.2)

In this Part 2 of SEGMENT 17, we pick up in the Fall of 1991 where Prince  receives his 5th no. 1 hit with "Cream", and the "Diamonds and Pearls" album hasn't even been released yet.  Ingrid Chavez's album is released with high hopes by WB, but flops.  Miles Davis passes away, and Prince says goodbye in his own way. Ahead of the release of "Diamonds and Pearls", Prince continues his promotional push, and hires his own publicity agent.  Steve Fargnoli sues Prince again, after hearing "Diamonds and Pearls", but nothing comes of it.

With "Diamonds and Pearls", Prince changes his image a bit in line with the times and his new music, and Prince receives a bit of criticism from hardcore fans and the music press behind it.  

Prince begins weaving the narrative for the next album, casting Mayte in the "role" of "Egyptian princess", and the NPG begins recording this new music.  Mayte is now in love with Prince, and learns of his relationship with Carmen...and others.  

Prince embarks upon the "Diamonds and Pearls" Tour of Japan, Australia, and Europe, and the tour is hard almost traumatic for Rosie and Mayte.  Carmen's album and act are not well received, but Carmen does not mind, since she is gaining a bit of attention from Hollywood.  Rosie eventually quits the NPG and goes back home to California.  

"Diamonds and Pearls" turns out to be the commercial success Prince planned it to be, but the success exacerbates issues between Prince and the label.

As usual, the episode contains numerous live concert and television footage as well as rare interviews with Prince’s band members and studio staff.
